Likuliku Lagoon Resort
Malolo Island, Western Division, Fiji
2016
Likuliku Lagoon Resort is a landmark project in Pacific resort design - celebrated as the first in Fiji to offer authentic over-water bures, set within a protected marine sanctuary. Architects Pacific worked closely with the client, Ahura Resorts, to create a location that not only delivers subtle luxury but also remains deeply grounded in cultural authenticity and environmental sensitivity.
Drawing inspiration from traditional Fijian village forms, the resort is designed to appear, from the water, as though it has always belonged to its surroundings. At its heart stands a dramatic interpretation of a Fijian drua (canoe) house—crafted with soaring thatched ceilings, woven materials, and natural textures that honour local craftsmanship while incorporating contemporary comforts.
Every element of the design respects its pristine setting -from low-impact structures and vernacular materials to carefully integrated detailing that celebrates Fijian identity. Likuliku is not only a place of relaxation, but a built expression of heritage, place, and people - where modern hospitality and cultural integrity exist in harmony.
